Sail and Ski Senja / Finnmark 2023

Sail and ski 2023

Explore Norway the way it was meant to be, climb peaks you can only reach from the water and take untracked descents down to the water. This is ski touring at its best. Moondance will start in Senja March 2023 and move towards Finnmark April 2023. With this format we will sail to the best snow (statistics) and have the best sun hours. We are happy to welcome you on Moondance.

The Boat

Moondance is a custom built 57ft Koopmans, designed by Dick Koopmans and built at the Koopmans kasko’s warf in Sneek. Ideal for expeditions to Norway, Iceland and even further north. Unlike the previous, the ship has been designed with comfort as the first priority, followed by durability. This yacht offers comfortable berths for a total of 6 guests (+1 guide), sufficient heating, a hot shower, a toilet, equipment storage and much more.

a typical day

Every day we make one or two ascents and descents. At the end of the afternoon

we usually make a long descent back towards the fjord and the Moondance. Before

dinner we set sail again and anchor in sight of tomorrows tour. On board you are

very well looked after by the crew. Every morning a hearty breakfast awaits us and

we will be able to prepare a take away lunch. When we return to the ship at the

end of the afternoon, we gladly enjoy our well deserved Moondance beer and be

surprised by the catch of the day!

Day 1: All Aboard!

You’ll be picked up by your guides from a predetermined location and taken to the sailing ship, your home for the upcoming week. After meeting the crew and the team, you’ll go through safety precautions, daily schedule, division of responsibilities, etc. Set sail immediately and enjoy your first dinner cruising down the Arctic Ocean to the next day’s ski location.

Day 2-6: Ski and Sail on Norway’s Coastline

Wake up to the smell of fresh coffee and have a delicious breakfast to kick off the day. Load the gear into a dinghy and start your adventure. After your guide has made sure that everyone is feeling comfortable and safe on the snow, you’ll start climbing up those white-clad mountains. With a change of locations every day, you’ll be doing epic summit-to-sea descents on new terrain. Don’t forget, you’re not getting your usual wintry vistas on this trip—you’ll be touring Norway’s mountains with perfect views of nearby islands and peaks surrounded by the blue Arctic Ocean. Descend to the sea where the ship is waiting for you at the end of the day and watch the sun go down into the ocean. Hit the hay early because tomorrow is another day like this.

Day 7: Return journey

This thrilling adventure has unfortunately come to an end. But look on the bright side—you’ve skied on incredible terrain, pushed your skiing skills to a new level, and enjoyed some of the finest icy panoramas in the world. Have your breakfast in the morning and say goodbye to the crew. You’ll be transferred to the harbor and the airport and head home.

* The area’s we operate there are not many boats and I want to keep it that way. With the others boats we discussed to not put too much on locations and mountains.
