Ski touring week at Trollviken Lodge, Norway

Welcome to Trollviken Lodge, beautifully situated on the shores of the Ofotfjord in Northern Norway. Here, you'll stay on a charming old fishing and farming homestead, lovingly preserved to offer a true taste of mountain culture – right in the heart of Scandinavia’s finest ski touring terrain At Trollviken, you’ll sleep soundly at night and explore new peaks each day. After a day in the mountains, we warm up in the fjordside sauna before gathering for dinner in the lodge’s cozy dining room. From the shoreline, the lights of Narvik shimmer across the fjord, and as night falls, the gentle sound of the waves lulls you to sleep.

The lodge is perfectly located on the north side of the Ofotfjord, just 30 minutes from Evenes (Harstad/Narvik Airport). From here, we have access to hundreds of fantastic day tours – many with stunning sea views and descents all the way down to the fjord.

Weekly Program

(The following is a preliminary schedule that may change depending on snow conditions, weather, and wind.)

Day 1 – Sunday, Arrival Day

The week begins with a pickup at the airport. The easiest option is to fly to Evenes (also called Harstad/Narvik Airport) or take the train to Narvik Station. We’ll settle in at Trollviken, go through the equipment, talk about avalanche safety, and possibly do a short exercise.

Day 2 – Monday

We hop into the minibus and head to our local favorite, Spanstind. It's a beautiful mountain with magical views and plenty of descent options. After the tour, we’ll likely stop for a coffee at the Lauphaugen Tourist Station while the guide hitches a ride back to collect the car.

Spanstind rises to 1,460 meters, but since we start around 400 meters, it makes for a perfect first day with about 1,000 vertical meters of skiing. Afterwards, there’s time to enjoy a warm sauna before dinner at the lodge.

Day 3 – Tuesday

We drive a bit further out toward Tjeldsundet and summit Strandtinden. The route offers stunning views of Northern Norway, looking out over Vestfjorden, and a long, majestic north face that often holds excellent snow.

Day 4 – Wednesday

Today’s goal is a sharper, more dramatic peak: Rombackstøtta, located on the other side of the fjord. It’s a longer day and gives a true summit experience on what’s known as “Narvik’s Matterhorn.” The descent often offers great powder, and if snow conditions are stable, we might choose a steeper line down through the Rombak gullies. 

Day 5 – Thursday

Today we go for Novafjellet. It’s a long day, but the reward is panoramic views in every direction: north toward Andørja, Rolla, and Senja; northwest toward the open sea and Harstad; and west toward Lofoten and Vesterålen.

Day 6 – Friday

Today we ski at the best lift-accessed mountain in the Nordics – Narvikfjellet. Using a combination of lifts and climbing skins, we open up the mountain for some 3,000 vertical meters of incredible skiing terrain.

Day 7 – Saturday

Transfer to the airport for your journey home.

This is a sample weekly program. We have hundreds of tours within reach, and we’ll choose the best ones each day based on the current snow and weather conditions.

• 6 days guide service with certified mountain guide (UIAGM/IFMGA)

• Personal equipment for ski touring.

• Flight to Evenes/Narvik.

Travel

The closest airport is Evenes, located about 30 min by car from the lodge. We will do our best to coordinate the group’s travel to make airport transfers as smooth as possible. More information about exact transfer times will be shared soon.

Group Size & Private Group Option

This trip runs with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 participants. If you are a private group, the trip can be customized to suit your wishes.
