Basic course in rock climbing is a two-day course for those who want to learn the basics of outdoor rock climbing.
The course follows the Swedish Climbing Association's standards for an authorized basic course. To ensure a good and safe learning situation, we accept a maximum of 4 students per instructor.
All our instructors are certified mountain guides (UIAGM/IFMGA) and/or certified rock climbing instructors (UIAA/ Swedish Climbing Association)
All of our instructors have over 15 years of experience in climbing and training in climbing.
Length of the course
Two consecutive days, about 7-8 hours per day. (Most often Saturday-Sunday but can also be Monday-Tuesday or Wednesday-Thursday. See start date.)
Course content
We go through basic climbing techniques, rope handling and belaying, stands and belays, abseiling techniques and much more. All the time with safety in focus.
Green card
The course includes training and testing in the elements included in the green card. If you pass the test, you will receive a green card home after the course. The green card acts as a certificate of knowledge and is required to get top rope climbing on indoor walls.
If you already have a green card from an indoor wall (which many on this course have), it will be an extension with the things you need to climb outdoors, for example rigging your own top rope anchors etc.
Course objectives
After the course, you should be able to engage in independent climbing. You must be able to set up a top rope, arrange anchors with your own belays and be able to celebrate down after completing the climb.
Who should participate?
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn to climb and wants to get a safe and good foundation from which to develop further as a climber. It suits both those who have no prior knowledge at all and those who have tried climbing a few times.
Previous knowledge
There is no requirement for previous climbing experience. If you have indoor climbing experience, that's good because then we have more time, but it's not a requirement to participate.
Place
The course is given at several different cliffs around Sweden. See the list of upcoming course dates to find a cliff near you.
Normally we are in Stockholm. But for groups, we can also book a course in Gothenburg, Bohuslän
Collection before course
We gather in a place that can be reached by public transport. Your instructor will provide more information about the meeting place when you book.
Equipment
Of course, you can borrow climbing equipment from us during the course.
Equipment and preparation
All climbing equipment can of course be borrowed on site.
Keep in mind that the weather can change. Bring comfortable clothes adapted to the season and preferably something rain-resistant. So far we have not had to cancel any course due to of rain and should there be any part that cannot be carried out, we will book a new opportunity to complete what we missed.
Student discount and lower price on weekdays!
Most often, the courses are given 2 days after each other, eg Saturday-Sunday. But for those of you who can take the course on weekdays, we give a discount and the courses on weekdays cost SEK 3150 per person.
Private course
If there are two or more of you who want a private course, we will be happy to help you. Then we can tailor the course for you and focus on exactly what you want to learn. The price for a private course with 2 students is SEK 5450 per person.
