Ski touring weekend in the land of the midnight sun - Riksgränsen, Abisko and Narvik

Join us in the land of the Midnight Sun! North of the Arctic Circle, where the sun never sets and paints the mountains in shades of red, pink, purple, and every colour in between throughout the night. Here, snow lingers on the peaks well into spring, making it possible to enjoy ski touring all the way into June.

Riksgränsen is widely regarded as Sweden’s premier destination for ski touring. The area has a long and proud skiing heritage dating back to Olle Rimfors and the early development of skiing in Sweden. With Riksgränsen as our base, we will explore a variety of mountains on both the Swedish and Norwegian sides of the border. One of the great advantages of ski touring in this region is the flexibility it offers; conditions can vary significantly between valleys and mountain ranges, allowing us to choose the best destination each day based on weather and snow conditions.

Ski touring combines the peace and spectacular scenery of mountain travel with the excitement of skiing untouched snow. The beauty of the activity is that it can be adapted to different ambitions and experience levels. We can choose longer and more demanding tours, steeper terrain, or gentler descents depending on the group’s preferences. As mountain guides, our role is to select tours that suit both the conditions and the participants. We ascend under our own power, enjoying the journey and a few well-earned breaks along the way before reaching the summit and the reward that awaits: the descent. The duration and difficulty of each day are tailored to the group, ensuring an enjoyable and memorable experience in the mountains.

Season

The ski touring season runs from March onwards. If you want to experience the Midnight Sun in its full glory, you’ll need to wait until early May. However, the months before are equally beautiful, when the sun merely brushes the horizon before rising again.

Program

- Wednesday: Arrival day and check-in at the hotel from 15:00.

- Thursday-Saturday: Ski touring days! The group meets the guide at our office in the hotel lobby on Thursday morning for a briefing and tour planning. We then travel by minibus or train to the mountain that offers the best conditions for the day.

- Sunday: On the final day, we ski as much as possible before it is time to travel home. Check-out is no later than 11:00, and luggage can be stored in the hotel luggage room. After skiing, there is an opportunity to shower and change in the sauna located on the upper floor of the hotel.

Our goal is always to provide the best possible experience. Weather, wind, and snow conditions may require adjustments to the itinerary and daily plans.
