Ski touring weekend in the land of the midnight sun - Riksgränsen, Abisko and Narvik

Come with us to the Empire of the Midnight Sun! North of the Arctic Circle where the sun never sets and colors the mountains red, pink, purple and a thousand different shades in between all night long. Here, the snow remains on the peaks all spring and it is no problem to go on ski tours until June.

Riksgränsen is by far Sweden's best base for touring on skis. Here there is a long tradition of touring and skiing that stretches all the way back to Olle Rimfors and the beginning of skiing in Sweden. With Riksgränsen as a base, we will do day trips on various mountains on both the Norwegian and Swedish side. The great thing about touring in this area is that you can move with the weather and the snow, as it is often clear and calm on one side and snowing on the other. Therefore, we are flexible and can choose the route according to the weather.

Ski touring is a wonderful combination of beautiful views, the stillness of being in the mountains and the action of downhill skiing. All of this can be adjusted by level; we can go steep, far and long and go for soft flowy rides or the other way around. As mountain guides, it is our job to always choose tours that suit you.

Season

The season lasts from March onwards. If you want the sun to be fully up at midnight, you have to wait until the beginning of May, but it is at least as beautiful in the months before when the sun only caresses the lower edge of the horizon.

Program

The group meets their guide for planning the trip and sets off in the morning by minibus or train towards the peak that offers the best conditions for that particular day.

You will go up the mountain by your own machine and after a couple of coffee breaks you’re at the top and ready for the reward, the ride down. Difficulty and time required depends on which peak you choose and it’s adapted to the group's level and wishes.

Accommodation

The accommodation included is in a shared skier's room incl. breakfast at Hotel Riksgränsen (single room can be booked for an extra charge).

Equipment

The idea is to explore and experience the mountains in this fantastic area with skins under the skis. You don't need to think about safety equipment, you can borrow it from us.

Included:

• Guiding by authorized mountain guides(UIAGM/IFMGA) for 4 days.

• Loan of avalanche safety equipment(shovel, probe and transceiver).

• Transport throughout the week by minibus incl. diesel & tolls.

• 4 nights accommodation in a shared skier’s room(single room possible for an extra fee).

• Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

• 16-week training program developed especially for the trip by lic PT.

• Lots of nice summit tours!

Not included:

• Personal equipment (see below).

• Travel to/from Riksgränsen.

• Ski pass if we choose to start from the ski system some day.

• Lunches and dinners.

Personal equipment

The following is equipment you need to bring on the trip. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact us.

• Skis / Splitboard for touring inc. climbing skins.

• Crampons.

• Poles, adjustable with big baskets.

• Boots for touring.

• Ski backpack, approx. 35 L.

• Clothing for skiing.

• Extra base layers and a warming jacket(for example a down jacket or extra fleece to put on when we take a break).

• Extra gloves.

• Sunglasses and ski goggles.

• Sun protection.
