Heliskiing in Riksgränsen

Experience some of Scandinavia’s most spectacular mountains from the air and enjoy untouched skiing in one of Europe’s largest wilderness areas. With the helicopter as your lift and our certified mountain guides leading the way, you’ll gain access to long descents, breathtaking views, and snow-covered peaks far beyond lifts and groomed slopes.

We fly to a wide range of peaks around Riksgränsen, including Voitasrita, Korsatjåkka, Hoigancorru, and Biran. For those looking for even bigger mountains and longer runs, we also offer skiing in the Kåtotjåkka and Kebnekaise areas, where vertical descents can exceed 1,500 metres.

The Skiing

With hundreds of mountain peaks to choose from, we can tailor each day according to weather, snow, and safety conditions. Our goal is always the same – to provide the best possible skiing available that day.

Many of the mountains closest to Riksgränsen offer between 700 and 1,000 vertical metres per run, just a few minutes’ flight from the village. The combination of easily accessible terrain, big mountains, and varied skiing makes this one of Europe’s premier heliski destinations.

The Area

Our heliski terrain covers approximately 5,000 square kilometres and stretches across one of Europe’s largest continuous wilderness regions. Here you’ll find remote valleys, alpine summits, and a mountain landscape that feels both vast and untouched.

Season

The heliski season in Riksgränsen normally runs from mid-March until mid-May. Booking for day trips opens on December 1st, but you are welcome to register your interest in specific dates already now.

We also offer multi-day heliski packages including accommodation, guiding, and transfers for those who want to experience several days of heliskiing in the area.

Prerequisites

Heliskiing in Riksgränsen is suitable both for those wanting to try heliskiing for the first time and for experienced off-piste skiers.

If you are comfortable skiing red and black runs, you will be able to join our half-day option with three runs. For larger packages with more runs, we recommend previous off-piste experience and confidence skiing in varying snow conditions.

Safety

Safety is always our highest priority. All participants are equipped with modern avalanche safety equipment, including a digital transceiver, shovel, probe, and avalanche airbag backpack. Before skiing begins, we conduct a comprehensive safety briefing covering both equipment and procedures.

All of our guides are internationally certified mountain guides with extensive experience skiing and guiding in the region.

Heliskiing – How It Works

Guests who have never tried heliskiing before are often curious about the practical side of the experience, so here is a brief overview.

You will be divided into groups of four guests and equipped with avalanche safety gear. Your mountain guide will then explain the loading and unloading procedures for the helicopter. Some important points include:

• The guide loads and unloads all skis and poles.

• The guide opens and closes all helicopter doors.

• Do not knock snow off your boots against the helicopter.

• Fasten your seatbelt as soon as you sit down and keep it fastened until the helicopter has landed.

• The rotor blades continue spinning while loading and unloading. Upon landing, the guide will indicate when to exit and where to sit.

• Wear your helmet or hat, goggles, and gloves, and keep your jacket fully zipped, as the helicopter creates significant snow drift.

Group Size

4 guests per guide. Maximum of 2 groups per helicopter rotation

Personal Equipment

In addition to your regular ski equipment, we recommend bringing a helmet or warm hat and ski goggles.

Snowboard, Skis or Telemark

Snowboarders are welcome. Since most runs follow the fall line directly and the helicopter picks us up where the terrain levels out, skiers and snowboarders can comfortably ski together in the same group without anyone having to wait.

Included

• Heliskiing with professional guidance and instruction from an internationally certified mountain guide (UIAGM/IFMGA)

• Safety equipment, including avalanche airbag backpack (ABS/Mammut PAS), shovel, probe, and digital transceiver

• The best possible skiing from the number of peaks included in your booking
